Is Your Business Missing Out on Singapore? Expand to Singapore in Days, Not Months—Start Your Marketplace Today!

Are you a foreign company looking to expand into Southeast Asia? Singapore is the perfect launchpad. With a tech-savvy population, high internet penetration, and strong purchasing power, it’s one of the hottest markets for online businesses.

Here's how to set up your marketplace in Singapore to operate from abroad!

There are a few basic steps to begin.

A. Appoint a Local Director : ~ SGD 100 /mth

  1. You will need to register for a seller account on each platform.
  2. This starts with setting up a business entity with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) to handle operations in Singapore.
  3. He/She has to be a Singaporean citizen, permanent resident, or an Employment Pass holder. You could apply for an EntrePass through the Ministry of Manpower to act as your own local director.
  4. Or subscribe to a Corporate Secretary service

B. Secure an Address   : ~ SGD 300 /mth

  1. This address is used for official notices to be received from relevant authorities.

  2. Rented P.O boxes are not accepted. You can consider subscribing to Virtual Office providers.

  3. The costs depends on whether you add on other value-added services like mail concierge, co-working spaces, and/or landlines.

C. Maintain a Singapore Mobile Line   : ~ SGD 20 /mth

  1. To register your self-managed store on marketplaces in Singapore, verification is required. One common method is via OTP sent to a local mobile.

  2. You'll need this mobile line for OTP verification during registration, as well as later for two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging in.

D. Incorporate Singapore Entity   : SGD 115 - 315 , one-time fee

  1. At this point, you have brought together the providers for the necessary documentations.

  2. You can start to set up your Seller Accounts on common marketplaces like Shopee, Lazada, and uShop Market

Don't forget, there are still ongoing tasks that need regular attention.

  1. Research: Understand the seller rules on Shopee Singapore, Lazada Singapore, and uShop Market—especially for returns and disputes.

  2. Shipping: Set up your delivery options, either using the platform’s logistics or your own.

  3. Warehousing: Rent space for your stock. Self-storage won’t help with order fulfillment. Some platforms offer storage and fulfillment, but these usually limit you to selling only on their platform. Consider a neutral warehouse if you want to sell across multiple platforms.

  4. Payment Setup: Most platforms only let you withdraw to a local bank, so arrange accordingly.

  5. Marketing: Use social media and the built-in marketing tools on Shopee and Lazada to promote your products.

  6. Customer Service: Be ready to respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues quickly.

Hire your Order Management team (Salary: SGD 1,500 – SGD 4,000/month):

To help you manage your stocks, orders and returns, take care of packing, as well as handle marketing and enquiries.

Alternative, you can cut out all of these steps and engage a Marketplace Manager.

Going global doesn’t have to mean going it alone. Instead of juggling all the moving parts yourself, many lean businesses are partnering with a local verified Marketplace Manager to handle their online launch and operations.

With 10 years of experience supporting thousands of merchants across multiple platforms, uParcel offers comprehensive end-to-end marketplace expansion packages designed to help overseas businesses enter Singapore's e-commerce market with confidence.
